Nook from Barns and Noble is my travel gadget.
Today, we had a chance to try new Barns and Noble’s creation, the NOOK eBook reader. Device is pretty cool for those who like to read books. It has no backlight, therefore you will need to get a little pin light to go with it. Besides that, I consider it the gadget I’m packing with me when traveling, especially if I travel within United States of America. Using Nook’s paid-for 3G connection or WiFi, users can purchase electronic versions of more than one million book titles right on the fly, wirelessly. On the fly, but not while flying in the plane please. For those who would like to read while flying in the plane however, B&N created an other cool feature – Airplane Mode On. It disables 3G and WiFi making Nook, the safe to use gadget in the flying plane.
The e-Ink screen refreshes only once when loading the page and has no glare, just like a book page. Eyes never get tired like from reading from the laptop.
The preinstalled 2 gigabytes of memory, that device comes with, lets users to download and store up to 1500 eBook files ready for reading on the device with a tap on the LCD touch screen. But an online locker where all purchased eBooks are kept, lets users to store unlimited amount of eBooks. Them, users will never loose. Even if the device is lost, books are still saved in the locker forever and could be re-downloaded anytime form any Nook device registered to that user. The times when you had to install huge wooden shelves to keep your library are gone. Nook is your library that will never loose you a single book that you have ever bought. Just imagine having the library of unlimited amount of books together with a book store in your pocket, that’s exactly what the Nook is all about.
Ouch, almost forgot. Lending feature lets users to lend their books to the other Nook users, also within seconds, on the fly, and the books come back to the owner on their own automatically in two weeks, so there is no way for the borrower to forget to return your book back to you.
